Keyaan: We are brother and sister – I am ten years old and my sister Aza is twelve. We are living with our aunt in this camp because we no longer have parents.
Before I was born, we lost my father. He was kidnapped by ISIS and until now we don’t know anything about him. I have never seen him in my lifetime.
Aza: I was two years old when ISIS took my father. I don’t remember much, but my aunt has shared with us about the horrific things that took place then.
Everyone ran to the mountains without taking anything. Once there, we had nothing, so some men decided to go and look for supplies to keep us alive. But on the way, they were kidnapped by ISIS and one of them was our father. We have never heard what happened to them. Our mother wasn’t ok, and eventually she also left us.
Keyaan: We think about our father a lot, and I miss him so much even though I never had the chance to meet him. After we attended the Heroes Journey, we started to feel better. I loved the Heroes Powers, especially hope! Hope shows me that things can be different, even after what we have been through. Good things will come again.
Aza: Having the power of hope and belief have helped me work hard and trust God. I want to study and be a doctor to help people, and someday, I want to see my father again.
