Aliyah

My Name is Aliyah, and I come from South Sudan. When the war broke out in my village, we left everything behind and came here. I carried only the children and nothing else. When we arrived in Uganda, we started from zero. I had been running a business back home, but I lost it all - all of my hard work… everything. I couldn’t even start anything new because I spent all the money I had saved to get us here. I felt like I had failed everyone.

Tutapona has strengthened me a lot. Before I would isolate myself, and I had a lot of terrible thoughts in my mind. I even considered committing suicide. Tutapona’s staff helped me see that isolating myself is not a healthy choice, for me or for my family. They helped me find people I could trust, and talk to about what was happening inside my mind, and about the things that are disturbing me. Now, when I feel sad or anxious, I get dressed immediately and go out, and go singing at the church! It helps me feel better, and I don’t feel alone. I have a community of people. The things Tutapona taught me have made me strong - now I don’t have those suicidal thoughts anymore.

I see a bright future for my children because now I am stronger. I can take care of them and I have hope for them, and for myself.

Because of the generosity of people like you, mothers like Aliyah have learned how to overcome, face their shame, and know that they are not alone. BUT there are thousands of people with stories that are yet to end with hope. Help Tutapona provide that hope and healing by donating today.
